I am needing to replace the front shocks/struts on my just purchased 1996 Lexus LS400 and am not very knowledgable on what to get. I called a local shop for a quote and they told me $800.00 for the front "struts". I admit to being a newbie, but this sounds a little high. Can you guys help me with what to expect price-wise and what brands are the best? Thanks a bunch.

OEm is the cheapest, but I would get bilsteins if I were you. Struts will normally run about 50-85 dollars per strut. and labor should be around 50-60 dollars per strut

That price is high.
Bilsteins are very nice riding though a touch firmer. These will get you about $460 for all four corners and about $225 to install. One + with the Bilsteins is that if you choose, you can use the lower spring perch setting and it will lower the car about 3/8". There is not much out there, I'd choose between the Bilstein HD or OEM from the dealer.

Thanks guys! I just knew that was way too high for just the front ones. I'll definitely do much more checking around. Great forum, by the way. I look forward to learning lots more here.
