99 LS400 with Bad radio LCD
Good News:
I just got a 99 LS400 with 50400 miles and in very good condition, the dealer records shows that the original owner did all the service up to 45000.
Bad News (Not so bad radio works )
I noticed that some of my digits on the radio was missing or fading and it seems like a known bug with the Lexus !
I have a 94GS which i have had for 8 years with all the LCD as clear as new.
Question:
What is the best practice "excluding the dealer" to replace a failing LCD unit?
Does anyone know a reliable source where i can get the complete LCD and board assembly with cables
so that the replacement would just be plug and play.
I would also need directions on how to remove and replace the Radio.
Thanks

LCD: Thanks to everyone your quick responce
I will be going with the dude "lexusaudio" in Ohio, he has the entire process and parts very detailed
Sorry to say but the $#@! at the dealership canot even offer decent options.
We should all write a protest letter to lexus and complain about the known defects
like the LCD which seems to be very common.
Thanks to all

Nice car - hope you're able to get that LCD fixed soon.
I was lucky in that the previous owner who purchased the car as a CPO had the stereo replaced under warranty. One less thing for me to worry about (I hope!!).

Clean ride,
Sorry to hear that about the radio, it does still work right? I have a 98’ LS 400 with over 100,000 miles and I have a problem with some of the buttons not lighting up (BASS, TREBLE, FADE) on my Nakamiki system. But asides from that, my baby runs like a sewing machine!! I hope that doesn’t taint your view of the 400 because you will definitely like this car. Also, you made a good decision joining this forum. I remember my first time here; people were so friendly and happy to respond to my questions. I found my man Grand LS to be very helpful to my situations and you’ll love the knowledgeable feed back from everyone as well. I visit this forum a lot but I don’t respond to something if I am not 100% sure, but I did want to chime in on your new purchase. Great choice…

Now about those lights in your Nak unit, they can be easily changed... have you seen the tutorial for the first gens addressing the same problem?

Unfortunately my tutorial is ONLY for 90-92 screens. As far as I know Jim only sells 90-92 climate control screens. There must be a part number for your '99 radio screen though....you'll just have to do a lot of digging to find it. Man, it sucks your '99 screen went bad!

Anybody have problems with INTERMITENT failure (short?) of the radio backlight illumination? Problem seems to be up front near the head unit. I also have LCD diodes that have failed, but I'm more concerned with keeping the backlighting working.

Here's the Part you Need IF
you have a pioneer radio head like my 1996 LS400.
http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/...156ZT&x=28&y=7
my radio has missing segments that comes and goes and backlight that comes and goes.
the lcd itself is $54 and the lcd assembly is $99. shipping is 10 and restock is 20% should you need more the just the lcd. i haven't done this yet b/c i haven't wanted to spend a 100 to fix the lcd. my radio/cd works fine. you can find on the web how to remove radio.
