From end to end it's about 3 1/8", this includes the cover. I took the needle all the way off and it measures about 2 11/16". I broke off the black section towards the end of the needle, it has a resistance of roughly 1100 ohms. My guess is that the total resistance that joins the ends of the cathode is about 2000 ohms. Does this make any sense?

is there a mirror behind the gauge faces to give the warning lamps the projected look?

No mirror, the warning lamps project down onto the tinted cover of the instrument cluster.

My odometer gauge is also wrong...only half works and my fuel gauge works and moves a little bit slowly. When I fill up my tank my gauge won't even go on the top...(4/5 tank). So this must be every LS problem...\

Yeah this is a problem (fuel gauge) with my actual cluster (and many LS's) which is why I started looking into a fix in the first place. It's really annoying to me. Anyway, recapping will fix this...I just haven't had time to take out my cluster and recap it.

On a different note, I may have a few possible options for fixing the needles. I'm not sure I want to invest more of my money into this to try them out though. I've already invested a lot of my time and money with no return.

Does the mileage counter get messed up when the instrument cluster is broken?

Before I had my 93 LS dash display repaired by Jim Walker in November, 2003, I had the usual problem of the display not lighting up when the weather was cool. I noted then that the odometer does not add miles when the display is not illuminated. I did not have any other problems involving the mileage counter.

Jim refuses to say what he uses, I emailed him a while ago, it's a secret

1990 LS here and so far *knock on wood* only the temp. needle acts up. It takes awhile for it to light up.

If OLT can do the LS gauges to accept his "waterfall" look I will be all over it
