1SICKLEX, so true. What about the Honda Accord. As far as I am concerned that thing is as american as...well anything. It may have Japanese origins, but America is what influences it, after all the latest accord was designed in L.A. That thing is an icon, with all around practicallity.

funny as i read through these replies i have to laugh....first off i think everybody has owned or knows somebody who has owned a chevy.....my self included.... they are fine to get from point a to point b but thats it they are boring and built poorly......ever been in a corvette they squeek and rattle and thats there best .....oh back to the drawing board i guess huh chevy?.....now the impala ss thats a hot car huh?...it's pretty much a taxi cab painted black with special wheels on it.....and yes i know it has a corvette drive train in it who cares corvettes are great if you are in a mid life crisis or in high school........chevy and just about every other american vehicle uses the cheapest plastic and switches in there cars .......lexus shouldn't even be said in the same sentence as chevy....and hey if you want to talk about performance improvements on the impala ss then lets be fair and do the same to the LS400 goto rod millen motorsports and read the part writen about how the LS 400 engine is one of the most detuned engines built.......leave the LS400 out of the comparisons with taxi cabs if you want to compare at least do it with something of equal value......buy a couple more "fear this" stickers for your chevy......

To Kyle F,

You said that you have a 89 Trans Am; with 231 Cubic In.? I never heard of a Trans Am with 231 cubes!!!!

Your 89 engine is a 5.7 liters or 350 cubic in. L98 engine.... So where is this 231 cubes engine come from? Does a Trans Am owner replaced a 350 cubic in. for a smaller engine size to make it go faster in 1/4?????

Please prove to us that you do know what you are talking about? YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A TRANS AM
Do you have any oil leak with your intake, rear main seal, or maybe the oil sending unit?? I think you are a fake...

I used to have a 80 Z28, 79 Trans Am, and now I own a 88 Vette, and a 93 SC400. I love both of my car in different ways; there are no way the SC 400 compete with the Vette in 1/4 or 0-60, but if you get a chance to drive a Lexus you will know what a $40K Jabs car will do.

I didn't say anything bad about Z28, Trans Am or Corvette. I agree with the power of these car, but these car break down much more often than Japs. car.

I worked for Conley's Performance Plus, home of Tweaked and Tweaked II, they specialize in 3.8L turbo engines such as yours and I have "tweaked" many of them, I know those engines/cars backwards and forwards. I have now been a Master Lexus Tech for some time now. The difference between the two brands is night and day, from driving to the nuts and bolts of the entire car. You get what you pay for. That includes customer support. Take your trans am to the dealership, even when it was under warranty and tell them you have a rattle somewhere, they would have laughed at you. Lexus would fix it. You get what you pay for. Oh, by the way, in the next 2-4 years Lexus is going to produce a limited production car that is going to compete with the McLaren F1. When Lexus decides to go racing you will know it.

VQT, In '89 Pontiac built a limited number of turbo V6 TransAms (231cid). Seems like the output was higher than the last Grand National/T-Types and they were 245hp/330tq(estimating on torque, it may have been 325 or as high as 350) These TAs were quick and VERY easy to make 12 second cars out of.

Cool

Guys, seems our friend KyleF is all talk no action, like that wasn't obvious. I'm a moderator over on www.TurboBuick.com and besides my LS 400 I own also own an 87 Grand National, yes with little mods they do fly Kyle does indeed own a Turbo TA but it's no where near as fast as he stated over here as he himself was asking for advice on how to make it quicker since its still in parts. I've since called him on it and of course he lied to me as well.... please don't let his reply be indicative to all TurboBuick/TurboTrans Am owners so don't waste time or bandwidth on his initial response, just thought I'd let you guys know and if you get a chance swing by and check our site out. Later Geoff.

Thumbs up

I rememger when GN were the S#!T is the '80s beating stock Vettes and all!!!

This was the car to have besides a 5.0 Mustang GT. It's glad to see owners of the GN still keeping this classic alive and really RUNNING!!!

Nice site and I'll drop by from time to time! We had a '89 Conquest TSI and 300ZX tt... I love turbo cars...
