My headunit's tape player just broke and i going to replace it with a doulbedin tape and cd aftermarket headunit, but i have a couple of questions.
1.If i get a aftermarket headunit, well i need to get a totally new set of speakers because i know the wiring will not match, but is it possible that can i just rewire the factory speakers to work with my new aftermarket headunit?
2.Are alot of doubledin sized tape/cd headunits that well fit in the slot of the factory lexus headunit.I have a 90-94 LS400.
I appreciate anybody's help.

i highly doubt that any aftermarket head unit will fit your car. I was recently into the Specialist and bestbuys and they told me i would have to make a customer mounting pieace. I wanted to get a LCD screen, but they told me i would cost me a couple of hundred to make a custom mounting kit and to rewire all the wires. This really stinks. If anyone knows anyone seeling a mounting kit then please prove me wrong and tell me where to get one.
thanks.
thanks.

Actually it isn't as hard as you think.
I have redone my whole stereo and in the progress of redoing it again.
The only thing you really have to do is custom make the face plate and get a wiring diagram of the car (I have one if you would like a copy). The wiring diagram is needed to wire your after market stereo to it because there isn't a aftermarket harness for any Lexus period.
Besides that it is like installing a aftermarket system to your car.
If you need any details or help just give me a holler.
I'm always happy to hep.

Lou you should be moderating the electronics forum!!! Just kidding...are you going to post those wiring diagrams here or send them out email??? I'd like a copy...if you could send them to zushwa@excite.com I''d appreciate it. I don't really need them now but once I get some of the performance mod's out of the way I might find room in the budget.
Also Lou, I know you don't want to post pic's of your car yet but some of the interior/head unit might help some of us get an idea for our LS's
edogg, there's a pic at lexusfans.com under the owners rides...it's the last LS listed...something Johnson is his name...he has an Alpine set-up that's pretty nice...
we better be careful or we're going to get moved...the LS forum needs all the posts it can get!!!

Well I'm getting my whole car redone (head unit, amps, wires, EQ, monitor, subs, etc.) and will be taking pics of the install for my records and competition display so I will have pics posted as soon as I'm done. I'm waiting for the exhaust before I'm satisfied with the exterior for pics. the engine is also in the works so no pics there either. I say I should be done with the stereo install in about 5-8 weeks so I will have pics then. Sorry for the long wait, I'm a little perfectionist and like to do things right.
The diagrams is somewhere in my house, I haven't found them yet. If I can't find them then I'll get a copy from my friend at Lexus. You know the wiring for the Pioneer is different from the Nakimichi. I have the Pioneer so if I find my diagram then it is of the Pioneer. If you need a Nakimichi diagram then tell me and I'll get you one.
I will scan and post them here when I find or get them.
I will also email you one zushwa since it seems like your enternet is slow.

Thanks Lou...I have the Pioneer also so the diagrams you have will work. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of gear are you installing??? I like the Alpine because of their color scheme and reliabilty but it's REALLY pricey...Clarion and Eclipse are nice...
These are my planned upgrades, although they are in stages and down the road a ways..
1. Diamond components up front
2. JL Audio free air sub
3. Diamond rear fill
4. 5 channel amp, haven't completed research as to what brand..maybe PPI, Hifonics
All this would be run from the stock head. After that I'd go with head unit and DVD player, maybe PS2 for the little one, RF Symmetry EPX2, sealed subs and dedicated amp..
I'd love to have Alpine DVD, foldout monitor, and the RF control unit flush mounted in the center console...all green to match the interior...that would be nice...

This is what I had before last weekend:
Custom face plate
Alpine CDA-7864 In-Dash CD Player/Receiver
Alpine CHA-1214 12 Disc CD Changer
Alpine ERA-G320 Digital Equalizer/Audio Processor
(2) JL 12" W3 subwoofers
MTX 500D Thunder 2 ch amp
MTX 204 Thunder 4 ch amp
Streetwire capacitor
Streetwire wires all around
custom sub inclosure and trunk display
Pioneer components 4" speakers front and back
I'm also sticking with the Alpine systems because of how they match the Lexus dash really well.
The Alpine Cd changer, face plate, and EQ will stay but this is what is going in it the next couple of weeks:
Alpine DVA-5205 DVD/Video CD/Audio CD Player
Alpine IVA-C800 Mobile Multimedia Station/CD Receiver
(3) Eclipse 34230 2 ch amp (1 for subs, 1 for front, and 1 for rear)
(2) Eclipse 88120DVC 12" subwoofers
Eclipse 8062 components 6" in a custom kick panel for front
Eclipse 8042 components 4 1/2" in rear
Stinger Capacitors
Stinger wires all around
Dry cell battery (don't know yet)
Custom fiber glass inclosure and trunk
What do yall think?

Lou, You're the Man...that's a hell of a system...a couple of questions...
1. Any plans for 5.1, if so, any idea about a location for the center channel???
2. why Eclipse driver's and amps??? haven't heard good or bad about them...I know they make great head units...did you get a sponsor or something???
3. what about a rear viewing monitor??? I saw a pic of a PS2 with the monitor in the center console...with the rear vents still there in the GS gallery...that would be nice...
Looks like I know who to come to when I'm ready to upgrade my system!!! do you install everything yourself????

Yes, I did get sponsered by a friend's store he works for and they carry Eclipse as their main stuff.
Well it is still in the planning stages, but that is what we last talked about.
Actually the last talk is changing everything to Eclipse (head unit, EQ, CD changer, DVD, stronger amps, etc.).
I'm just working within their budget and time on my car.
Eclipse is actually really good.
They are more high end products that if not equal exceed the quality and capability of Alpine in every department. You can check out their website.

Relapse, give me a call man!
I can hook you up on my old stuff for dirt cheap, maybe cheaper then I listed for you!
I need to get rid of them ASAP!
