another question, is it ok to use a generic brand like k&n or should i go with toyota/lexus? and do pre owned toyota dealerships, sell parts?

OEM Toyota>>>>aftermarket by a wide margin. I acutally dissected a OEM Denso from 1983 on a Cressida and a Purolator and the difference is day and night.

Let your fuel light come on & drive 30 more miles & you will deal with a lot less fuel in the system.

For the advanced crowd just use aux power from a 12V source to the fuel pump & drain the gas into a handy reciptical.

why wait for it to drain? who cares? just pull the fuel pump relay while the car is running to ditch the extra pressure in the system and plug the lines with rags until you get the new filter on... sure you'll get gas on your arms but it'll take all of five minutes and you're avoiding dealing with a pan full of extremely flammable liquid.
