K & n Air filters
#1
I have a 1996 Ls 400 -- the car is perfect with 60k -- thinking about getting a K & N air filter.
Is it worth it???
Does the car drive any differently in terms of pickup???
Anything else special about it????
Thanks

K&N are great filters. There's a thread on page 2 " Who wants more power" that has a lot on info on all type of LS power info... Enjoy...
Also look on the SC forum for a thread for more info.. check out the "Air filter heat shield Debate" on this forum there's a lot more input on the SC forum about this too....
on the thread "92 SC 5 speed Performance" I listed a few relevant threads and info about filters, mufflers, etc..
Good luck

hlippy4,
I got your PM but I'll reply here too. I personally didn't notice any change in performance, but I also don't push my car all too often. As far as the brand of filter (K&N) I have never heard anything bad about them in any circle. It would be nice if some ingenious gearhead that loves performance would design an intake and share with other clublexus members!! (are you reading this jbrady) J/J!!

K&N makes a good filter that offers virtually no flow resistance while cleaning the air. However, I doubt that you would see more than 1-2hp increase at best. There is also the potential for some well meaning tech to discard your K&N in favor of a NEW standard filter. I MAY get around to designing a proper inlet tube and I would recommend the K&N to go with it. There are a couple technical difficulties involved so don't hold your breath. If you want a substancial performance increase I would recommend the torque converter from SRT.
