Just bought an LS400
I just purchased a 96 LS400 yesterday. I noticed that my car only has one exhaust, and not the usual dual exhaust on same models. IS that normal to have only one exhaust on the LS?

No, it is not normal . All LS400 have dual exhaust, only difference is that in Gen 1 90-94, you could see the exhaust tips and then the were covered until the 2003 model. The 2004 has them exposed again if I am not mistaken. Maybe the exhaust system was replaced, but that is odd, my 91 still has its original exhaust system, wouldn 't know why they replaced it .

Here's an exhaust diagram for a 94 exhaust:
As you can see, the LS has dual exhaust. You should definitely get this checked out as soon as possible because you may be losing a lot of low end power as well as horsepower.

That sends flags up. Does the car have the original panels?
If you pull up the trunk liner and lift up the side covers on each side, do you see signs of body work?
Given your location, it is possible the stock exhaust has rusted so it was replaced. That said, check where it was replaced. If it runs straight from the Y pipe up by the tranny, you may be better off if they used 2-1/2" pipe all the way back to a single muffler of appropriate size.
The stock system is restrictive, the Y merges and two silencers are a big flow restrictor...if the prior owner got rid of that rear section... I'll be doing similar later this year.

Thanks for all of your responses.
Well, I had some time to put it up on the lift today at a shop. I guess the original owner eliminated the one of the mufflers, and exaust pipe at the Y. They ran a single 3" pipe all the way to the muffler. The muffler looked black stock , but it had a 3" inlet with dual 2.5" black exhaust tip. I guess my exhaust is a little louder then other LS400. I didn't take notice because my muffler is a little loud on my GS300, and got used to it.
