I think I might have said it didnt matter if youre gonna change it at 3k/3 months. I figured how bad could the oil get at that low mileage.

There isnt one person who can absolutely be certain what is the best combo of oil, filter and time interval to change it. Anyone that proclaims the method they use is the best way is wacked out.

Basically it comes down to what youre comfortable with. So if you evaluate your financial philosophy, youre gonna come up with what filter, oil and time interval to use. Good luck, just dont take any one persons opinion as gospel.

I agree with Yoji.

No one can claim to know the best combo.
But in regards to the filter -? Autozone sells Mobil1 and just about anyone carries k&N.
A good point of references on quality is the valve on the inside of the filter.
My other vehicle used Fram filters for a long time and After switching to K&N I've noticed that the engine doesn't "tick" like it used to on start up.
No Fram no more.
And Search for "Fram" here in the Forums and you will find plenty of people that have left Fram in the dust years ago.
I was a little late to the band wagon though.

The Fram story along with all other filters is here
(maybe bias, but I always take everyones' advice and go in the middle.)

When it comes to the filters: 90915-20004 This is the Lexus/Toyota "Golden Child" of Filters. Plenty of people have cut open filters and I do believe in the (amount of) thickness and quality of the material itself as a good measure of what a "good" filter is. Here's a tip, a really heavy filter when you take it off is a good thing. More sludge out of your engine!

Cut open Toyota filter link
There is a whole diatribe on the made in Japan filter and the newer Thailand filter... bla bla bla.
Someone cut one open please.
Oh and the 90915-YZZB5 is a lesser filter but, Hey its still a Toyota part. Why not use it?
Its probably a decent filter......
Oh! lets all just Forget the quality control awards and superior craftmanship of Japanese labor....

Oh and becareful with all the advice, even the Bob the oil guy forums can get heated. Who knows who owns who?

Here is the Supra filter vs. the 90915-20004:

In general:

Mobil 1/K&N/Toyota filters are the best.. Good luck.
I agree.....only other filter I would add to that list would be an Amsoil.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but oil filters don’t appreciate in value over time. Especially when everyone knows that filter is at least 2+ years old.

Default Grand_LS 4

Things that are rare and of known high quality do appreciate over time.

EDIT:

Following a message from DavGS4, I am happy to indicate that Steve Ganz, a vendor here at CL, is in the process of arranging a group buy. I think it would be appropriate for CL members to contact him rather than anybody else.
