Hi~~
WOW!! This is a great forum.
A friend of mine is moving to Europe due to business and is selling his 1991 LS400.
I'm interested in purchasing it because he is willing to sell to me really cheap.
The thing is that his dashboard is not working.
I'm sure it is expensive to fix, wondering how expensive??
Also, what should I look out for, i.e. repairs??
Before the dashboard went out he had 155K miles on it.
It's been out for about a month.
Please let me know.
Thanks~~

Welcome SHR XTC to clublexus. The only thing i could try is to check to fuses.

Otherwise i cannot help you much on that.Maybe some other members like Loule or Jbrady might help you on this.

Josh, I think you got Eric starting to direct peeps to me!

Welcome to ClubLexus!

It seems like your friend's dash lights have went out.
This is going to suck.
Here is what one member did:

Or you can just get a old one from the junkyard for around $200-$400 and exchange it out that way.
The only thing about this is that your OD will be different as in what ever car you got it from.
As far as other maintenance it is just the regular checkups is all that is required.
The dash is usually the only complaint people have about this car.
Good luck on what ever you decide on.

Loule you're going to be a subject matter expert whether you like it or not!!

The only other things that seems to go out on the LS are the climate control indicators. Mine are slowly fading and others on this forum have said that theirs are going or are already gone.

OH!!! BTW, welcome to the club SHR XTC!!

Thanks for the replies and advice.

In regards to the dashboard...
If the bulbs go out then I would have to replace the whole gauge cluster??
I'm not familiar with the layout and construction of a Lexus dashboard but if a bulb is out, can't you just change the bulb??
The URL that "loule" recommended only explains the needles.
As "loule" mentioned, can I exchange the cluster myself??
How hard is it??

Also as "zushwa" mentioned the climate controls...
Junk yard and replace??
Or is there another way??

Thanks so much!!!!!

The gauge cluster doesn't have bulbs and the climate control doesn't either.
The lights are in a form of gas like neon lights and so it isn't as simple as replacing a bulb.
The dash and climate control are actually easy to remove.
The URL I posted if you keep reading will post a site that will show you how to fix the gauges also.
http://www.jkwebdesign.co.uk/lexuscl...ationmeter.htm
It is of a Soarer cluster but if you can find those resistors on the LS then it is basicly the same.
The old URL I posted should explain how to take out the cluster.
Here is a Lexus salvage yard that has everything you would need for your Lexus:
