Navigation on 98-00
I accidentally posted this in the LS430 Forum and didn't get any replies so I decided to put it on here, so don't get angry if you already have seen this! Ok so I have a 1998 LS400 and I can buy the factory GPS, but do I have to have the wiring for it, or does it already come in the car? Any helps would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

I noticed when installing a phone kit in my 00 LS that there was no cable or connector for a Nav hard drive unit which would have been installed at the rear of the under-floor well on the right side of the trunk on cars that came with Nav.
Similarly, if your car does not have heated seats, air suspension or HID lights, then your car does not have the wiring that is necessary to support these options.
All LS400's including the 98-00 are, however, wired for one of the optional dealer installed phone systems. Some if this wiring, including the audio system mute connection and phone antenna imprinted on the rear window, can be easily used for a non-Lexus phone kit.
The 98-00 Nav with its 4:3 aspect ratio and hard drive seems to be regarded as old technology. I think the last 98-00 Nav update was in 2003.

Not sure about the LS, but here is info on the GS's coversion to OEM navi:
http://lexusmodz.netfirms.com/GS_DIY/oemgps/
You will see that he's made a new harness that wil plug into the navi ECU, and one to power the navi.
