Please post how much the bulbs cost I would like to change my LCD to blue. I have already removed the pioneer radio and installed The Panasonic CQ-DF601U.

Thank you

Unhappy LS400 A.C. Control LCD readout

Hello All

Well I just bought a 91 LS400 last sunday and I love it. One problem is that my LCD is also mostly blacked out like some of yours. I see many post saying this is a comon problem. I also see that you all have recommended a company that can fix it.

So my question is have many of you tried the company out? It seem to expensive to me $295. Did the gropup buy ever go through? If so for how much.

Thank you for you time

Good news, nothing broke and everything i wanted to achive is done.
Bad news, the LCD screen numbers words do not appear so it means that my LCD is broken.
part number for the bulb is 83119-24490. the bulb for the LCD has a black backing, and the luminating buttons display (you know the one that lights up the buttons when the headlights are turned on) has a grey backing.
instruction to replace bulb:
1, first remove the wood surround the shifter, by using a flat head. it pops up.
Second use the flat head again to pop up the ash tray assembly, it also pops off. there you will find two screws holding the radio in place. after move up to the A/C vents. use a flat head to pop that open too. (remember to unplug any harness to have more room)
then behind the A/C vent has two more scres to remove. After that just use your flat head to pop up the A/C and radio out, they are attached. after that there are one screw on each side of the A/C faceplate, after removing them, it pops up with some force. then there you go, the bulbs. They are the type that screws 1/4 of the way to lock in place, use a philips heads to remove it. thats all there is too it. you can buy all blue bulbs to make your LCD and buttons to light up blue at night, but i have not figures out to do the radio. They guy at Lexus of Tucson said that you would need a new assembly, and that you cannot change the color of the radio. Well if you have more question use ask and i'll do all i can to help..
P.S. who that man!!! just playing

If your climate control LCD display is "cloudy"
I HIGHLY recommend Mikado Tech. Co.
in San Franscisco. I sent my LCD card
only, that way I still had A/C. They replaced it, and gave me those little
lights that also burned out . Pretty
easy to replace.
They did this all for $295.00 w/shipping!

$295 is kind of expensive for them to rebuild considering a brand new unit costs $440.

It is replacing a LCD display and a few tiny bulbs.
The rest of my module is fine.

I would glady save a $150.00 and only replace
what was broke.

But at that age of a controller something else might go soon anyway. $150 is nothing compared with the headache and cost of repairing a 10 year old unit again if something else fails. My philosophy on fixing things is to do it right once rather than fix it multiple times to attempt what will end up as a lengthier and more mediocre fix. If the service itself was $150 then it would be a different story.

For just under $300 I would expect:

a. replacement of all lights

b. one year warranty on any failures

c. removal and installation of the unit by their trained professionals.

Hermosa,

For $295.00 they do all that, although I am unsure
of the warranty. It actually is a rebuild service set up for
you to send them the module, and they fix it the LCD,
replace all the bulbs and then send it back to you.

Problem is you have no A/C or heat while it is gone.
Thats why I pulled my LCD out and only sent that.
It was not hard.

Anyway, my local Lexus dealer quoted me something
like $625.00 for a new one when I did this so it was an
easy choice for me.

I'm sorry to hear you guys are all getting ripped off for bulbs. If you're not interested in changing the colors (requiring the little plastic caps) and you don't need the bases, then you can buy bulbs from radio shack.

I replaced all my burned out bulbs (the type with the bases) for $2.00 a pair. Just look for the 12v bulbs with the wire leads coming out of them. Then just yank that bulb out of the base, be aware how the wires are bent. Slide the wires of the new bulb into the base, bend them around and clip off the excess wire.

If you are interested in changing the color of the display, I believe there is a site that actually sells those little caps in more colors than just blue and green. I just searched for it for a about an hour and can't find it. I think it was posted in the forums here so if anyone knows what I'm talking about please speak up.

I actually pulled all the caps off my dash bulbs. I know some of you resent the BMW-looking amber but I think it actually matches my tan interior better. If I can ever get a good price on some violet LEDs I'm gonna replace the dash bulbs with them.

BTW you can use those same radio shack bulbs for the solered bulbs, you just have to solder them. Again, as others have mentioned, that won't fix the blackening of the LCD.

Hope I've answered some questions. Sorry for the long post.
Fusion Man.
