Default full tank of gas , meter reading only half

its a 1993 lexus ls400 . i finally filled the tank up for the first time @ $2.75 a gallon . when i turned the car on , the needle only went up a little over half . so the problem isnt the needle right ? would it be the level thing in the gas tank ?

well, in the first gens, its usually the caps in the cluster itself. Do a search on here with the words "fuel gauge", that should yeild a lot of results.

HI,

is your instrumental cluster working? what I mean is dose it light up in the morning or takes few minutes before lighting up.....
this is a common problem with first gen LS. I got mine fixed be Jim walker including fuel gage for a good price...

do a search you will find all the info...

it could be the variable resistor on the sending unit

Yes, if it were a 95+ that is. I actually had that problem. Before the gauge issue came up, my Miles since refuel would reset out of the blue all the damn time. But since i changed the sender unit, it fixed the fuel gauge AND the miles since refuel issue. It used to reset like every 40 miles or so, now, it hasnt reseted once since I changed the sensor 6 months ago.

Grand_LS_4, good morning. I have exactly the same problem with my LS430 circa 2001. Thank you for the insight. Cheers, Bill

Hey Bill, it's good that you search for your answers but why would you dredge up a 6 year old thread just to say thank you? I was about to PM billy boi to find out where he's paying $2.75 a gallon for gas b/c I'm paying $4.49 (I would have sounded like a fool) Plus, I just spent some of my time digging up info on the fuel gauge problem that he posted about. Then I realized the date of the thread, 6 YEARS AGO.
