Too expensiive, YES ! That's exactly why I do not buy them new anymore, to much depreciation. And before you tell me all the statistics on which brand is worse/better.....yada ya, I know that have probably the best depreciation, but I have found that a 3-4 yr old Lexus LS is almost like new (because most owners take great care of them). In 1991 I was faced with the "is the LS400 worth $10K more than a Acura Legend?, at the time and even now, no way. That Legend gave me great service for 7 yrs and 100K miles. Replaced with a new 98 GS300 until 2005 when my wife wanted a new 4runner, which continues the Toyota GX vs 4runner type of argument. Both my wife and I liked the GX, but what were we getting for all that extra money?...wood?..little better quality leather? Just was not worth all the $$$$$$$ Especially since you could only get the Lexus w/a V8 during $3 a gallon gas?? Went with the V6 4runner and will save the rest for the next car/SUV. Love my 2001 LS430, would not trade it only for the next LS (used). Oh, and the comment on "no one would put 2 X 4's in a luxury car", yes, I have used it to haul rock, firewood, 2x4's, sprinkler pipe, you name it ! I protect what is neccessary with blankets, plastic sheets and NEVER overload. I do not trash my cars, but I am going to use it, I used to pamper and fret over every little thing, but keeping it "mint" for the next guy is stupid, + it seems to get very little more in resale (I'm sure I'll here arguments here)......IMHO. I still keep mine very nice and neighbors always ask me when I'm going to sell, but I do not put near as much effort into it and USE the car ! And yes, I sure wish there was more ***** under the hood ! Now that all my performance cars are gone I would love to see the next LS with a bit more performance (limited slip would also be nice).
