gettin old
is it me or the blind spots? I am 72, and am finding that backing out of parking spots requires a LOT more attention than usual. I use all three mirrors, turn my head, but still feel like I am gonna run over somebody (I have been driving cars since 1951 with some minor accidents but never a human has been injured either inside or outside my cars: ) I drive a 99 LS, and also have a 05 GX (wife's car) the backup camera on the GX is untrustworthy.
Also any entry on the GX forum that preaches override for the NAV is BS! Can't be done

It's not you. It is good you are cautious and making the efforf to verify the space behind you is clear. The way some people just fly out of a parking space, it's no wonder you don't feel safe in backing out.
Last week, pops was involved in a back-up incident...both backing out of a space and "crink"...how they didn't see each other, I dunno. Pops sometimes is fixated once he's looked one direction and doesn't continue scanning to make sure it's safe to proceed.

Not to mention, people now a days SPEED UP when they observe a car attempting to back up, with full knowledge that they might not be seen, and potentially putting themselves and others a unnecessary dangerous maneuver. Therefore, with pedestrians, for some reason, they think it’s a wise idea to speed up quick in attempt make it through to avoid stopping for 4-8 seconds. These types of people make it very hard for the rest of us to back up.
