I've done this in 20 minutes and the component cost is ZERO. A very worthwhile job. :^) My car is 1992 LS400.

So how exactly did you hook up the earphone jack to the CD inputs without cutting the existing wires. You also mentioned earlier that you ran it in parallel with the CD input lines. I have the earphone jack but I need to know exactly how to connect it with or without cutting into the wires.
Any and all info is greatly appreciated!!!

I took care of mine last week in 0 degree weather.

Pretty much you look into the back side (the side that doesnt go into the head unit) of the plug and pop the wire into that side of it on the respective wires.

Now that we're past that horribly confusing explanation...

The headphone wire will be going into the back side of the plug just like the RCA plugs here are going in.

I just used duct tape to make sure that mine stays in place.

I would suggest however that you split the negative wire into 2 and plug them in to both negative cd inputs. On mine I only connected it to one of the cd input negatives and it resulted in my sound being louder on one side and pretty quiet on the other...

So I assume you pulled the head unit out of the console and tapped into the CD R/L wires from behind the head unit?

I'm curious as to whether these wires are accessible from under the center console somewhere, since the CD changer wires run from the trunk into the cabin to reach the back of the head unit, but *where* are they routed?

I never cut any wire at all to do my tap.

I just...tapped...the inputs at the headunit plug and ran the wire from there past the gear shift, and under the edge of the console as near to the side of my seat as i could.

I know you guys are anti FM-Transmitters, but I use a Kensington one and it works great.. very little, if any, static.. easy to use, etc.

Dude--if you heard the difference between even the best FM transmitter and direct input, you'd throw that thing away!

No kidding...

Seriously, because I can edit the sound output settings on my mp3 player I'd have to say that my mp3's sound even better than the cd changer does.

yes but the problem is that FM radio inherently has a MUCH smaller frequency range than CD or direct wiring. U just CANT get the same lows and highs.
