Idle up valve the culprit
Just wanted to thank you guys. Finally got the car in to a mech. It was the power steering idle valve. When it was removed it was completely full of power steering fluid, as were the vacuum lines that led up to the engine. Lexus had recommended a whole new power steering pump. Now for a new question, the shop didn't put in Dextron like we normally do, its some other brand. Do I drain, or just leave it on a car with 252K? Thanks.

Dexron is not a brand. It is a type of automatic transmission fluid which meets certain standards. There are numerous brands of Dexron (now Dexron III, which is the current standard). Valvoline, Castrol, and many more of the lubricant manufacturers produce Dexron.
Whether or not the fluid needs to be replaced would depend upon what was installed in the power steering system. If it was standard power steering fluid, I would suspect that the system needs to be flushed and have the fluid replaced with Dexron III. I have no idea what the difference is between standard power steering fluid and Dexron III, but Toyota-Lexus obviously has some reason for using Dexron in the power steering system.

I yanked mine the other day....
....."Oh! And While I was in there... I yanked that Damn ICV valve out of the Power steering pump. You can reach it from the bottom with a 17mm opened ended wrench. Moving it ever so slowly, it will come out and drop fluid so be ready for it.
Replaced it with a 14 x 1.5 plug and slim gasket from Pep Boys.
Yeah, it idles down when steering is tilt, but who cares? I don't have to spend another $100 on another friggin part. Don't forget to cap the vacuum lines too boys and girls."

In retrospect, plugging it is a no brainer. Would be better off not to have to worry about power steering fluid getting sucked into the engine. Especially with the known failure rate on these valves. Kudos to you!

From above:
hope it works well for you.

When I bought my new PS Pump it came with a plug already installed (SC400 form, if you will) I just left it as is & installed it.
BTW, the ingestation of PS Fluid into the intake would not damage your engine.
