Gen 1 Subwoofer Replacement?
#2
i have a '93 with the nakamichi. it has an 8" factory sub. it is so weak i could hardly hear if it was playing at all. i got a 10" idq dvc sub, thinking to susp[end it under the hole. i hooked it up, inside a solid enclosure, and IT could hardly be heard. i had this idq tested at a local speaker shop. it tested fine. turns out the "power" amp in the setup is so weak it won't drive anything like a real subwoofer. the nakamichi sub is a one or two ohm speaker, so it "works" with minimal power, if you call that working.
i don't know of a replacement that takes so little power, and works. it would be nice if there was one. you really need to go with an amp upgrade, and all that entails, to get better sound. i haven't. but beware getting great speakers for your doors. in theory they would sound better than the factory setup including the sub. but great speakers will also require more power than is available.
the handling, ride and drivetrain of this car is phenomenal.the sound system is nothing but crap. it is also now outdated crap.
my cd player won't accept the cartridge anymore. i'm looking at getting an aftermarket head unit which will have more power than the factory unit.
