Rear door speaker dead on 1997 Coach Edition LS
Hi everyone -
I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for so I hope I'm not asking a question that's been posed a zillion times.
We just bought a 1997 LS400 Coach Edition from my parents (the original owners). The car has 127K on the odo and still looks and drives beautifully. Unfortunately, the speaker in the driver's side, rear door just gave up the ghost and there's no noise coming out of it at all. Sometimes, if I hit a big bump or (strangely enough) travel under big power lines, I get a buzzing sound out of that speaker and nothing more.
The car does not have the Nakamichi stereo. Only the standard Lexus Premium System that came with the Coach edition. All other aspects of the stereo/CD changeer, etc. work as intended.
Can I simply replace the door speaker with something from say Best Buy? Or is the stereo in this old girl like the stereo in my NSX that has the amps built into the speaker and it's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix.
The LS is our 3rd car that we intend to use for ballgames, airport runs, rainy days... so having the absolute best speakers in the world isn't important. But I would like to get back the "full sound" that the car is missing with one of the 7 speakers being dead.
Thanks in advance,
Christian

The amp isn't part of the speakers. It should be under your front passenger seat.
Bend down and take a look.
