For anyone coming from a sport compact type, Lexus is a whole other thing. The GS and IS have aftermarket support but the LS has been seen as the "old man's car" in most eyes. We know better but the masses won't.
For engine goodies, it's not going to be simple: it's the good old fashion stuff, head work, pistons, crank...blah-blah. The easiest mod would be to open up the exhausts and if willing one can buy the J. Brady headers as discussed in past threads. The stock air filter flows well that it meets the demands of the simple stuff. If you want a K&N or other cone type, go ahead.
Other stuff would be lightening the car so the HP/# ratio is better. I dunno many who will want to strip several hundred pounds from the car...this seems silly since one could buy a purpose built sports car and be road ready. The LS is a luxo barge.
The handling can be improved without sacrificing too much of the ride qualities so that is easily accomplished. Same with wheels tires...blah-blah. The strut tower bar...pretty easy and cheap to do.
If you have the $$, anything can be done. That is what makes modding a Lex exclusive...not as easily accomplished as some other cars. YMMV...

Go with the LS 430 motor...the tranny is even nicer. Once you get past the recalled ones. ![Wink](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Wait a bit then stuff the 4.6L from the upcoming LS460 into it.
A spell back I talked with someone about this combo in mine...the cost per performance gain isn't very good. You might be better off working over the current motor.

When I posed this question, it was for a freshened '98 VVti, tranny and wiring harness. Depended on miles of the combo if known.
The '98+ has about a 1.XX second on ours. To get that 1.XX second or so, how much is this swap going to cost? I think it is pretty high. I figure you'd want close to 40HP more and with some good tuning and minor mods, the non-VVTi can get that. The super charger that Luxury MotorWorks has is a consideration too.
Optional are the torque converter and rear end.
Pure...how many miles on your motor?
