If something is copyrighted and they don't want it copied, it should not be online or on electronic media period.
It should only be available on paper, in a book or ?

Regardless of format the material remains under their rights. Infringement and those who accept pirated works knowing that they do not have the rights to distribute, reproduce perpetuate the illegal distribution of the material. Distribution of these works violate the terms of service agreement of Club Lexus. IB, the Club Lexus administrators, moderators have no way to verify rights allowed by the creators/owners. In that regard we request that members refrain from using-distributing these works on the forum.

We realize that these diagrams and service instructions are beneficial though other means to relay the information is available. DIY's where we have the owners instructions of the steps they took including their own pictures work just as well and do not infringe on Toyota's copyright.

We're deviating from the thread so I hope that this can be clear and will promote others to detail fixes for others.

Every time you look at anything on the net it is downloaded to your pc in one form or another. So you technically are copying it. So again anything that others do not want copied, SHOULD NOT BE ACCESSEBLE ON THE NET period.

Many works are available for fair use for private. Distribution is where it may run afoul of the copyright laws. So in some sense yes, what is online is or can be infringement. Again, this is not the point of this thread. An intellectual lawyer would better clarify any questions. The moderator team follows what has been provided us by IB guidelines. Closing and removing materials that fall under intellectual property not owned by the poster that they freely share or make available for use.

Dicer, while I understand your sentiment you are 100% incorrect in how the copyright laws work in reality. I can direct you to some reading via pm if you like.

Since this source is unfortunately no longer available, I'm going to close this thread but remind folks that Lexus Does offer these materials online

https://techinfo.toyota.com
Toyota offers easy and immediate access to many service publications online through the Technical Information System (TIS). TIS is available to the public through a subscription. Subscriptions to this information service can be purchased for daily, monthly or annual access.

TIS provides access to all of the key service, maintenance, and reference publications necessary to support Toyota vehicles including:

Collision repair manual
Electrical wiring diagram
Owner's manual
Repair manual
Technical Service Bulletins (TSB)
Information is generally available for U.S. market vehicles starting from the 1990 model year, but specific information can be found in the TIS Library Content table. Please note that this site does not include any part catalog, ordering, or application information.
