Default Anti-theft question (98LS)

Here's the situation,

I park my '98 LS400 in the garage, unlocked for a few hours or so. I open the door (no key, no alarm "unlock"), I get in and start it up, the alarm goes off. This continues even after the car is started and the engine running.

Help!?

next time, see if the alarm has armed itself by checking the red alarm status light. weird thing is that the alarm should be going off as soon as you open the door, not after you turn the key in the ignition...

Very strange. Even if the alarm went off after the door was opened, it should go off when you put the key in the ignition.

Never heard of this happening before.

Let's not forget the fact that the car started while the alarm is going off. I know when my alarm goes off, my car will not start until it has been reset. I would lean towards a loose ground wire someplace.

I would look at a bad door pin switch.

I am not sure what the issue is since it happens intermittently, and even when it does happen I can still drive off once the alarm cycles through its 60 sec alert.

Is there a way to completely disable the OEM security system?

I dont think its that easy. Have you tried using a different key?
