Hooking up a laptop to LS 400 '94
Would you guys happen to know anything about hooking up a laptop to an LS400 '94 model? What kind of things can the onboard computer do? Does the onboard computer have control over timings? Would I be able to control these settings on demand? Since the car isn't ODB II I'm sure there are advantages and disadvantages, advantage being more specialized commands or readouts for more customization? Disadvantage as it being proprietary and therefore harder to read.
If there isn't as much as I anticipated, what kind of program/software hardware would/should I get to at least get a readout at the very minimum? I know that the onboard computer can do fuel intake, RPM, and error codes such as the engine, transmission, etc.

Pretty broad questions.
You need to look up info on the web about CarPc's. They have been done and some are very hot looking. You need the basic's. Like an LCD monitor that has serial or usb hookup whichever you would be using. Do a search on google using car pc and a bunch of sites will appear.

That would be sweet if you could do that but unfortunately its not available for 1st Gen /toyota specific OBD. you cannot as far as I know re write the code on the computer. Now the 98 + w/Nav you have on screen diag in car if you are hooked up to a Lexus computer you can re write alot of the functions codes
I will post pics on what the Lexus computer looks like and the functions it will change and diag. If you look hard enough you might be able to find one. But have not tried it on a 94 ive only used it on 90 93 and 98 LS,s

I understand what you mean.
I just figured you would be better off with getting and indash with the capabilities that you want. I have a pioneer that all you have to get is the vehicle dynamics processor and you could get all the info that you are looking for.
