Default Boot on rack and pinion leaking, LS400

One of the boots on my rack and pinon is leaking and I want to know if it would be possible to just replace the boot or seal instead of getting a whole new rack. I was also wondering how much would it cost for the part and how difficult is it to remove and reinstall.

One more thing, some one on a forum mentioned that the powersteering has a filter that should be clean/changed otherwise it can get clogged and leak onto the alternator or something. How do I clean this/change this or what ever?

As far as the boot it comes down to how long its been ripped. How long has the inner rod been exposed to the elements?

Replacement of the boot usually requires some work anyway. I think its about an hour shop time.

Bad news! My 94ls had this just happen.I was told the the boot is just a dust cover. If the rack starts leaking? The boot will hide it until it gets full of fluid. Then you see a leak from the boot. I went rebuilt. Cost about 400 dollars installed.
