Default 99 LS400 front suspension rattle

A shot in the dark - but maybe someone can steer me in the direction of what part(s) need to be replaced.

When I hit larger bumps, indentations on the road and especially rough rail road tracks - I hear a rattle coming from the front drivers side suspension. The harder the bump, the louder the rattle. I turned the wheel to full lock both ways and visually inspected the area but didn't see anything obvious that could be the culprit.

History on the car - almost at 129,000 miles. I purchased it 13 months ago with 115k miles. Previous owner purchased it as a CPA and has ALL records of service since the car was new.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated......

ur sure its the suspension and not something inside the dash?

could be dead strut bushings or broken brake line bracket.

sounds like the strut bars. THey are a common replacement item on the 2nd gens. Search for a thread by Mike (RA40) regarding this issue.

Cool - hopefully it's not a tough job. I'd like to do it myself if possible.

I realize with the mileage I have, things ARE going to start wearing out...

Could it be the brake pads rattling around inside the calipers?

I doubt it... usually when a sound is brake related, the sound will go away when you press on the brakes. Or the frequency of the sound would be related to the vehicles speed... This is not the case. The sound I'm hearing can almost be felt..it's definitely suspension related.

Unfortunately with the weather, it'll be some time before I can take the car apart and inspect bushings, etc...

I agree, many other things loose dust shield, bad tie rod upper control arm bushings, lower control arm, strut I could go on and on best thing to do is get the tire off and see where the play is at.
