I was wondering if its possible to install a '98 to '00 oem navigation unit on my
00 ls400? Would the ecu have to be replaced as well? Thanx for your responses.

search the GS forum, theres a couple guys who tried it but its really not worth it. the OEM navi system is pretty well integrated into the car, so you would need a multitude of sensors and computers to make it work. its NOT a simple HU swap, theres a LOT more to it than that.

and honestly, once u add it up, your going to be spending 2500-3500 on parts, for which you can get a pretty damn good aftermarket unit.

Default oem navigation

It was just a thought. I once test drove a used '98 ls400 with oem navi and I was quite impressed with it. Your probably right that an aftermarket navi would be more technically advanced but it probably would not look as clean and integrated as the oem. Do you have any recommendations as to which aftermarket looks the best for an '00 ls? I dont like the ones that slide out flip up...they tend to obscure and block whatever is behind it....

you can make a very clean look if you take youre time! I did this update in my first gen LS. The head unit I would look at is the Clarion MEX series It looks very elegant, or the Eclipse is a very nice unit also

If i were you id install the same setup as mine. Athough factory install as you can see in this picture it is a VDO DAYTON ms5000/6000. It fits snuggly into the ashtray.

You can pik these up for about 400 dollars now and install it yourself.
