Question Doh! Check Engine Light Came On.. Went to the Dealer And got 2 codes

95 LS, 152k

1) PO 420
2) PO 430

I believe these are catalytic converter codes. The service guy said the cats were aftermarket and might be too small...

Prior to this I ran a bottle of "fuel system cleaner" with a tank of gas. Hope I didn't free up a bunch of crud?

Check engine light was reset, but came back on on the drive home. Any suggestions besides replacing the cats? gulp, feeling poor.

Just so you know, Autozone, or discount auto parts will read your codes for free. Not sure about pre-96 cars though.

Interesting.. I called the dealer when the light came on. They said they and toyota were the only ones who could diagnose the codes.

Is there a chance that it could just be a sensor in the cats? I don't understand why they would work fine for about a week (no code) and now they are throwing the codes. It seems that if they were inadequate at reducing emissions, thus triggering the sensor to throw the code, this would have occurred right when they were installed.

I have only had the car for about a week, but the new cats appear to have been on there for a while.

Your car has two cats, and four oxygen sensors, two pre-cat, and two after-cat. You can buy universal sensors, from oxygensensors.com, they are fairly cheap. I just changed both of my pre-cat sensors, very easy straight forward DIY job.
