Default When it rains it pours....now I need an ABS pump

Need some help guys,

Just got back from the Lexus dealership. My ABS pump is gone

I was bleeding the brake lines, and got around to the drivers front, and couldn't get any brake fluid to the caliper. I even tried bleeding the brake line to the caliper, and no fluid. Got frustrated with it and ran it up to the Lexus dealership. They tell me that my ABS pump is in need of replacement because it is not allowing fluid to go to the drivers front caliper. So that means I only have one front brake working.

2 questions,

1- Does anyone have an ABS pump they will sell for a 1991 LS400 non-trac car.

And 2- if not, is there any way to rebuild the one I have?

Dealership wants $3150 to replace the ABS pump with a new unit, and there is just no way I can do that. This car has already tapped me out with $1300 this week for lower ball joints, upper ball joints(new upper control arms ), windshield, alignment, and a few other things.

I need help! The car is pretty much worthless if it needs $3100 worth of work done to it. And I need a safe reliable car to drive. So if you have a parts car, and are willing to sell your ABS pump or you know of one in a junkyard, please let me know. My only other option that I know of is to bypass the ABS on the front brakes.

Thanks in advance!
Nick

Sorry to hear.
You can take a chance at a salvage lot. I dunno if there is a cross reference for other Toyota sedans that use the same pump...that would open up your search possibilities.

You could disconnect ABS sensors, even just one sensor, and that will shut down the whole ABS system off - I had that done on my old GS300. However I dont know if brakes will work with non working ABS pump.

RA40- Finding a cross reference to other Toyota cars would be awesome. Finding the correct year model LS400 in the junkyard is going to be tough. Like a needle in a hay stack

Och- I don't think disconecting a sensor is going to make things work. Although I could be wrong. I would still need brake fluid to flow thru the ABS pump. Something inside the ABS pump is blocking the fluid and not allowing it to pass to the left front exit hole.

Maybe you can bypass the ABS pump?

Guess that will be my next step. There is no way I can afford to replace this part. I was kind of hoping that someone here had a parts car in their driveway that they would be willing to sell the ABS pump.

Check this ebay auction - it says it includes the ABS pump amongst other parts.

I'm at work right now, and blocked from viewing ebay. I looked at Ebay last night, and if this is the one that I remember, doesn't it say that these parts are for a car WITH traction control?

It says

"This auction is for a complete set of ABS parts removed from a wrecked 1992 Lexus LS400. Includes the ABS actuator, pump, master cylinder, all four sensors, and the nitrogen charged traction control bottle. Should fit all 90-94 models, great for replacements parts. Please note that these items are large and heavy, so shipping will reflect that. View my other auctions for a few more LS400 parts."

Better yet, bring the car to a local repair shop, rather than the dealer. These guys charge much less for labor, and have connections with local junk yards, so you will save yourself a lot of money.

This is the part that worries me.

Anybody know if the ABS pump is the same for Trac and Non-Trac cars?

Doing the work is not the problem for me. Getting the correct parts is. But I understand your thoughts on this. Maybe a repair shop will have more luck in finding a good pump.

I'll give it some thought.

Is the car able to brake right now? I'm not sure how the ABS pump works, but what happens if you shut down TRAC and ABS?

I have no brake fluid going to the drivers front caliper. All other brakes work fine. Only the drivers front is INOP. I do not have TRAC on my car.
