Default Lowering a LS400

I'm a newbie so excuse me if its a stupid question. Can a LS400 be lowered by cut springs like other cars or some other method?

just buy new aftermarket springs or a full Damper system. Cut ones change the spring rate and kill shocks...plus its kinda ghetto. No offence :/

Do a search for springs and you'll find lots of ideas like Eibach, H&R, etc. Never cut them on the LS - maybe a tuner car.

I don't think I've really seen a Lex bouncing down the road like the small tuner cars. Since Tanabe has an application available, it's an easy choice. H&R or if you hunt, Eibach.

There are threads in the forum here that show pics but here's one of mine showing the difference between 1" (top photo) and 2" (bottom photo). It may help you to know there is about a 1 1/2 finger gap. Before it was like a fist

I will post one of my stock set up versus a 2" drop now.

i was looking at these pics of your car...are the perches on the shocks set on the same setting front and back, or did you set the fronts lower than the back end? thanks

With the Bilsteins as nice as these are, the cost effective move is the Megan or BC-R adjustable coils. Unless you are dead set on a fixed spring set-up that will come in about $150-$200 less than the adjustable coils. That minimal savings isn't worth it today.

Back when ours was set-up, JDM coils were available at ~$2.5K+. Tein CS was $1,600 so it was very different on the wallet and adding in the EDFC controller was another expense. Springs were the least $ to go.

I cannot complain, the set-up has proven to be what I was looking for in terms of comfort and handling performance. Been in the car now for some 100K miles. There were not many choices back in '03 that were wallet friendly. I'm not on a treadmill to constantly throw $ into the car so that is my reason these are still there. (That and I love the alignment so I'm not going to change and hope the next tech can dial it in with different ride height settings.) If I still have the car when the Bilsteins go south, I'll follow my advice with some BC-R coils.

Steveski has HR springs in his with the Bilsteins. (A least back then.)

This is how ours is set:
Lowest snap ring setting front, high rear, drop front is 2" rear is 1.50" with the Eibach.

I did Tanabe springs with new kyb struts. Very happy with the results. 1.8 f / 1.5 r They are not adjustable but you get more comfort with a decent drop compared to coilovers. H&R are popular as well but have higher spring rates.
