The squeaking sounds started to appear on my car (157K miles), and I remembered this thread from a few days ago.

I went to friggin Autozone of all places and got me a Goodyear Gatorback belt.

I am very pleased with the results, extremely quiet and squeaking is gone. Thanks for the tip bud.

Right, because Toyota actually manufactures Belts and Motor Oil themselves...

it's called outsourcing, people. The lowest bidder wins. OEM isn't always the answer.
Gates or Goodyear Gatorback is the obvious choice. Dayco too, but I personally have never had good luck with them.

Not to mention that oil is so much more complex than a friggin belt....
Tribology is a very complicated field of knowledge.

Maybe a domestic carmaker goes with the absolute lowest bidder, but Toyota - especially for Lexus applications - goes with top-quality belt manufacturers such as Mitsuboshi. What do you know about tribology? Did you take any university courses on tribology? How about metrology and tolerance design? Any experience there?

Having a degree to tell you one belt is better than another would be a complete waste of $20 000 , don't you think?
If it is cheaper works better and lasts longer would that not be all that is needed to decide on what makes a belt good or bad?
