the locking pin isnt really required but the hoses arent too pricey so not a big deal.

I would rather be on the safe side. The pin is there to hold the hose in place. i know it might fit fine without and it might not come loose, but yeah better safe than sorry :-) I might as well deal with it while i was add it.
