Of course it isn't purely objective. However, something as subjective as the looks of a particular car vary too greatly to be expressed as fact.

well the reason i bought a 99 was i didn't like the looks of 01-03. plus the 04-06 was just a bit much. but if those 04-06 was in my price range i would have picked that up.

I really like the 99 more and more, but I dont know if I'm willing to spend that kind of money or that or do I got with a newer (2003+) car/truck. I know the LS is timeless and all, but I'm starting to feel like I want something with less than 50k miles. I know if I get an LS with that kind of miles I will have to pay a serious premium. It is a weird situation as I love how even my old 92 with 192k miles drives. It is reliable and smooth. I still get looks with the little mods that I do have. Maybe a fresh paintjob would make me keep it longer.
I just know that if I get a car note I want it to last me for a while and still have some kind of value, which is what keeps me Lexus driven.

^ nice, we need pics of that one!
I agree with the opinion the UCF21 is better looking than the UCF30, not to mention they can often be had for 5 - 10k cheaper. And there's this:
1998 Lexus LS 400 6.3 14.8 < - almost 1/2 quicker 0-60?
2001 Lexus LS 430 6.7 14.8
I like the 95-97 headlights a little better, but other than that the 98-00 are an easy choice because of the updates in hp, transmission, lighting, etc.
Look around long enough and you'll find a decent UCF21 for under 13k.

I like the 98-00 appearance. I remember the first time I saw the 01 430 and thought man - it looks pregnant! With mods they are better but IMO nothing beats a 98-00 stock or with mods. The lines and curves are fantastic

Id personally do it in a heart beat... I still get complements on my LS every time I take it out... Even tho the differences might be insignificant to some, in my opinion it sets off the car nicely and gives it a much more modern look.

From a physical appearance standpoint, I like the HID lights and the wood on the 98-00 LS's. I don't think that these and the other features warrant the extra money to upgrade. The 96 LS is still a very nice vehicle

mind you, i have wheels that are worth ~25-30% of my car when they were new so i cant really say anything

Well people generally dont mod their car with the intent of increasing its value. Well usually. People here seem to think the mods make the car worth more. The car is always worth what somebody is willing to pay, but the prices I see sometimes for older Lexus vehicles sometimes are outrageous.
I do agree that the 99 body is the best, the LS430 looks just too refined, I guess. The the older LS can look like a real stunner as opposed the ls430 that just looks like money.

I'd say it's clearly worth paying extra for 98-00, esp if it has HID and wood wheel as on the 99+. I think the exterior upgrades alone are nearly worth the money if you can make it out with only paying a couple grand more, and there's much more than just that. The more research I did on the 98-00 compared to the 95-97, the more reason I had to spend extra on one, and I've never had any regrets, I think the 98+ also gets better gas mileage.
