No. Chinese-made S&S clone headers. Cheaper, same design as the S&S.

I'd have to look into that one. I was noting that at the very least, there are headers from China that are designed to be like the S&S ones.

Well.. my MAF is bigger than the hole provided by the SRT intake. Im guessing i need a GS400 MAF! Was this changed to use this intake? I finally cut .5" out of the intake to make it NOT hit the fan and it points ok. I need to solve the MAF issue.

I did the "lexkost mod" and absolutely love it. That, and with the resonator cans removed, the thing's starting to sing Especially above 5k.

what is it with you raining on everyone's parade all the time?

honestly, you constantly complain about how the LS is such a bad car and among the worst you've owned although its apparently taken you FOUR of them to figure that out.

then you go on to compare the new 1UR motor to an LS1/6 and say that a cadillac is better than the LS ()

theres a difference between being constructively criticizing and just belittling and being negative.

the 95 LS sounds nothing like a honda 4cyl motor (too many of my friends have NA/turbo/godknowswhat B16/k20 motors). you cant even compare the 95 to your 98 since the cars sound a fair bit different due to the way they rev. the 95 will actually sound MORE muscley than the later model VVT-i motors since it revs more lazily.

Well.. i own them.. and yes.. it took me 4 of them because sadly.. they reached a point where they require too much money just to keep them in a usable state. They are cars designed for 5/50 and get rid of them. They were GREAT cars when new, but its the details that ruin the overall experience. Add to that the monopoly of lexus here and the uber expensive service, well.. you get the idea.

Sorry to rain your parade and yes... it took me 4 of them to figure it out, yeah... Sadly Caddy didn't have a RWD type car for these years and bmw's ride quality is so jumpy that I went with the ls.

I have the LS 98 and i did the SRT intake.. and it does sound like a 4cyl with an iceman. Sorry dude. I like their ride and the way they look, but at the time of modding them.. Sorry.. not the vehicles to mod.. They don't sound like a v8 should from the front.. The rear note is fine...

Maybe you should try a caddy and see the difference. Ride them, they are quieter and consume less fuel. They don't fail on all the accessories like cd changers, amplifiers, power locks, and such, EFI sensor connectors do not just toast up, PCMs last a lifetime and suspension parts are stronger and cheaper to get... There is a lot more aftermarket support, you can program their pcms to account for modifications and face it, parts are more accessible and cheaper with the same quality or better as a toyota part. And, im sorry if you feel "molested" by my opinions.. they are my opinion and its what i think about them.. the 98 will be the last lexus i'll ever buy.

Just check out jd power to see what has been changing lately.. its funny that a caddy depreciates less than an ls.

WOW ,now if that sounds like thee biggest fictional piece i have ever read .
An LS with 5 years life that is the stupidest sounding thing i have ever heard. You have problems that no one else has experienced .Caddy suspension being stronger????? Not by a long shot , the LS does consume bushing but that is the natural design and easily fixed by preventive maintenance.

i too own one of the last LS400s and keep in mind these are almost 10 year old cars...any problems beyond reasonable?

NONE.

Taiichi Ono, JIT production and zero QC tolerance has led Toyota/Lexus to be what it has become today.

There is no comparison. Maybe in marketing abilities and short term dog fights, but thats it.

I was very shocked to see this response. While I could see justifying this statement in comparison of a new Cadillac and a 10 year-old lexus, but not an equally old Cadillac and Lexusl.

The Northstar has numerous flaws, far more than the Toyota V8. Northstars experience a significant amount of head gasket failures as the miles increase. Replacement is an engine out fix.

Oil consumption can be a significant problem as well. This is less of an issue on the current make cars, but remember I'm using your 98 and a 98 STS as an example.

If you found a way to tune the Northstar PCM then you my friend are going to make a lot of money because the fine folks over at cadillacforums.com have been waiting for this for quite a long time.

There is virtually zero aftermarket Northstar support.

The LSx aftermarket is the strongest it has ever been, but that means buying either an LS6/LS2 CTS-V or an 6.0 liter or L92 Escalade. Don't even get me started on the CTS-V rear diff or smoothness of the T56. Most CTS-V diffs are a small 3,000rpm clutch dump/wheel hop away from a messy death.

This is great, but I highly suggest you put your 98 LS400 up for sale now and start looking for 1998 STS's because you'll probably be able to fetch a good 5-10k dollars more for your Lexus. You can take that 5-10k and buy an LS1 powered F-body and mod to your hearts delight.

Cadillac is a fine car, but I could not justify buying a higher mile used one versus an equally higher mile used Lexus.

I was referring to the new ls460 vs the new cts and sts, i've sat in both and the cts is quieter than the ls460, granted it has a lot more GADGETS that in the long run will give problems issues and will be hell to fix.. keep in mind here that the ls460 is 120k. vs a 70k vehicle on the most expensive caddy here. Have a tranny problem??? forget about fixing it.. that 8speed will not be serviced by ANYONE. Lexus dealers with the 5speed, even volvo, mazda and others tell you to buy a new one since they do not repair them.

The thing is ... you are all biased and i can understand as this is a lexus forum.

And to you sk.. why don't you list every single thing that has gone wrong with your car? Maybe i wasn't lucky to get a problem free vehicle. And i mean.. annoyances, like vanity mirrors not working, sudden stumbles out of the blue. Extremely flimsy motor mounts, trans mounts. Please.. i beg you.. try to remove the hoses from the intake a few times to see if they don't snap with just a slight twisting to remove the hoses.. or try removing the temp sensor connector or any connector near to the engine to see how they snap out and literally get destroyed.. THAT IS QUALITY LEXUS!

You can't get OEM lexus quality bushings w/o buying the complete upper a-arm or lower a-arm.. you can get the strut rod bushing though, but what about the rear knuckles???

Anyways. Engine, trans and rear, they are bulletproof.. its everything else that really blows by.

The problem with most american cars is the way they are handled, they are mistreated and abused, most of the times you see that their maintenance is practically 0 after the warranty and the necessary check ups are done. But with those engines i don't have to worry about belts every 60k. I've seen engines from 98-2000 model year with over 200k w/o issues at all... Yes, i've dealt with the gasket issue with them where i worked and i know its a common problem, also they have an issue with the lower part of the block that leaks quite a lot, since its a 2 piece. Those problems where fixed... yet.. you get a caddy of the same mileage and it will vibrate a lot less than a 430 engine from lexus, talk about quality. Been dealing with them locally and they all vibrate as a caddy doesn't, even with good motor mounts.

Yes, the car has yet to leave me stranded. but its all the annoyances that really make me want to get rid of the car.

If you can't all get the lexus glasses off and compare them justly you will simply be promoting a company that, although assembles cars locally, its money goes somewhere else. And just to touch up a matter that all american's feel personally... How many tundras did Toyota sent to ground 0? So.. take off the toyota glasses and look everything objectively.. TRY OUT A CADDY and then come back here and post.

I have 2001 z06 and want to know the problems of this car??? Shocks and right power window doesn't want to go down. That is it.. It was replaced under warranty 2x... and yet it ****ed up again.. Other than that.. it has a better A/C than the ls400s it has more power.. CONSUMES A LOT LESS Fuel (even with a cam and heads in it makign 455rwhp) and even though the suspension is a LOT stiffer and you can feel more things.. the dampening of sound is a lot better when you get heavy holes. In 40k miles i only had to replace shocks... No leaky valve covers. No issues with the maf wearing out, no issues with toasted crap on the engine bay even with headers. Its interior rattle FREE!!!!!!!! unlike the ls.

Be objective and you'll see I am not lying, maybe ranting, or otherwise trying to sell you something else. Lexus might look like the end of it all.. they are beautiful... no doubt about it.. I really like my car in the way of looks and interior looks, but... They don't last that long
