exhaust question (best exhaust for a '92?)
What would be the best exhaust to go with on my 92 ls 400? I don't want it real loud and I prefer a deep throaty sound compared to the sport compact sound. Any advice?

Your guy must not know we have 2 resonators and 2 mufflers! I took the resonators out and connected y pipe to mufflers and it rumbles but is not loud. Goes back to the point that most everything is custom and many shops out there have no clue what they are saying.

They also were puzzled when I asked them to make a y-pipe for my acura legend. weak. Going to a different shop next time obviously

Good call bro. Now when I take my car into shops most of the guys are pretty cool and impressed/surprised with all the little custom parts I have made or paid to get made. I tell them this ain't your daddy's LS :-) You will be impressed with the sound once you delete either the resonators or mufflers - just sounds like a V8.

if you just want to change the sound, remove the middle mufflers and leave the rears stock. it sounds like a stock camaro but a bit quieter. at cruise you can t hear it but at more throttle it gets louder. the only thing i dont' like is the weird put-put-put sound it makes at idle.

i think an H pipe would help on the lexus as well regarding the sound.

I was planning to have a catback custom-built with an X-pipe. It would be nice to hear an LS400 with a true-dual exhaust.

From what I understand, the rear mufflers of the LS4 flow pretty well. Just replacing the large single resonator (thanks PD!) with a Magnaflow X-pipe, and then running dual pipes back to the stock mufflers should give 95% of the performance of a truly custom cat-back setup on a N/A application (for those that want to keep the stock look).

I got a quote for $130 to run 2.25" pipe from the cats back to the rear mufflers (x pipe not included costs extra). This includes relocating the O2 sensors to the new pipe. I hear the stock mufflers flow well but still want either HKS, Borla, Tanabe to replace when I run true duals. They should change the sound dramitically.
