HOW TO: Replace AC Dryer/Receiver
This was done on a 1991 LS 400. I bought the Dryer/Receiver for $28.90 at Advance auto parts.
First remove the passenger side Headlight.
Now Remove these 3 bolts. (just release the tension on the 3rd bolt on the right for the canister to slide up)
Slide it out like butter.

Side by Side
Empty slot after removal
Install new one
Don't Forget to tighten the side bolt
Install Headlamp back in.
This is all I have done I plan on getting it regas

Wow, this is fantastic. Thank you so much.
If you don't mind, I have a couple quick questions.
1. After the work you have done, I assume you are going to take the car to a shop and have them evacuate and charge the A/C charge. Is this correct?
2. Aside from the parts you have shown being replaced, are there any other mechanical parts involved in the a/c?
So far I have:
Evaporator
Compressor
Receiver/dryer
Expansion valve
Of course there are the associated lines and motors/servos, but are there any other major mechanical parts I am missing?
Thanks again and I hope you were able to solve your problem!

it's safe to say there is a problem with my dryer. even brake cleaner didnt cut through all the mineral oil that came out of the system. i bought a replacement dryer and ended up snapping the bolt that connects to the dryer-to-condenser tube during installation. i'm waiting for another replacement to continue on the path to climate controlled comfort.
i'm fortunate to have a relative in the hvac business. i already evacuated my system (before trying to replace any parts) and found it was loosing vacuum after a few hours. once i find and fix all of the leak, i'll purge and evacuate a few times, add some more oil and fill with refrigerant.
it doesnt hurt to have access to a quality manifold gauge, 2 stage vacuum pump rated at 5 cfm and 40 microns, and a tank full of r12.
