LS400 Bad gas mileage and TRAC
Hi,
I'm a new owner of a 91 LS400 and I'm very happy with it so far. There are some things that the car needs done but I just don't have the money to have a lot done, I can barely afford gas. I prefer to buy tools than pay a mechanic. Here are my questions:
Biggest problem: The car's giving me only 13 mpg (6 km/l) in city. Tyre preasure is maxed out 38 psi but it feels like i'm pulling a trailer. Using 91 octane. What do you think is wrong? Check engine light is ok. Can the Oxy sensors be bad and not show up in check engine? How do I find out if they are bad? I have ramps and can buy oxy sensor socket. All four may need to be replaced? Or front more important than rear? What else can i do to decrease consumption? Alternator?
Other problems:
TRAC light comes on after a couple minutes of driving and periodic humming sound. Is it ok to ignore it?
Very Minor oil leak around oil pan, PS rack area. Oil level stays high.
Very minor oil leak around PS pump, area barely moist. Oil level stays high... ok to ignore?
Sometimes car blows white smoke when started. Not always.
Upper control arm joint a little loose. little play. Ok to ignore for now?
Your advice is much appreciated

welcome to clublexus, u may need to refer to this website for ur gas mileage problems http://sr1.clublexus.com/forums/show...ht=caps+rotors.
and for ur trac light, u might need to figure out which code you have, http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html. also www.lexls.com is a tutorial site that u can look around to see if any of ur problems is there.
ALSO u can also use the search button on top to look for ur problems other members have experienced.

I honestly don't know why you bought a car in that condition if you can barely afford your gas. For the TRAC light, you can pull the TRAC code and find out what is causing the light to come on. See if you can find where on the car the humming sound is coming from because it could really be anything.

I just fell in love with the car before i even went to see it first time from reading online about it. I didnt even take it to a mechanic. I do love it, i'm just gonna try to fix one thing at a time. I don't mind if it stays parked a few months.
Thanks

watz up!
first of all put 93 octane and higher just last week i put nascar gas in my car by accident i think thats 103 octane lol... that **** flew lol...
dont put 91
since u just got it !
get a tune up!
the reason ur trac button comes on is probably because either 1 of ur fuel injector died or a spark plug....
i have had that problem lol...
