sc400 versus ls400 trannys

sc400 versus ls400 trannys
so i think the tranny went out in my ls400. and i can get a sc400 tranny for cheap but no one can tell me if they match.... any help would be great thanks

not quite sure about it being covered. anyway gear ratio and mounts are no big deal - swap extension housing if necessary as well as bellhousing. if electronic plugs are the same then we're in business. the aristo and sc trans have the same kind of driveshaft hookup that we do.

1992-1997 SC400's use the A340E, the same transmission as the 1995-1997 LS400. 1990-1994 LS400's use the A341E transmission, which is the same except for a taller (slower) first gear. So an A340E *should* bolt up, and would actually improve performance a little. I'm not sure how the computer would cope with the 1-2 shiftpoint though. I also am unsure about the speed sensor and other electric hookups, but it should be doable with a little splicing if needed.

It would be really nice if we could fit a 5 or 6 speed transmission like found in the later LS430s. The extra speeds mean faster acceleration and better fuel economy. Too bad we can't, our computers don't know how to shift them.
Maybe an AEM standalone EMS could handle that? but that would be a major PITA in and of itself!

Not to bump up and old thread, but my ‘95 LS400 has an a341e, which was also used in ‘95 LS400’s.

strange, why my first gear is so tall, even though mine's the 340e version. i climb a fair amount of hills, in traffic, and always seems that if i just stick it in first, it over revs when traffic gets ahead of me, then in second, not enough to stay in a comfortable powerband. so i just have to put up with leaving it in second, and ping pong hunt gears going up hill based on my commanded throttle. annoying. oh yeah, mine's a 97 ls400, wouldn't give it up if i don't have to. all stock, everything works (finally)

I have seen a couple guys on youtube who have switched in a 5 speed manual transmission
