Ball joint replacement
Are the ball joints themselves available as a part that can be replaced in A-arms and such (using a hydraulic press)?

The only ball joints which cannot be replaced separately are the front uper ones'. They are part of the control arm and have to be replaced as an entire unit.

Lower ball joint--yes (and very simple to do)
Upper ball joint=replace entire UCA.

Does this How - To apply to 1996 model year also, or did the front end change in the 95-97 models?

It changed, but they are still similar enough that the howto should apply just fine.

basic suspension design is the same, LBJ is easy change, UBJ is only done by replacing full UCA.

LBJ job is so easy on these cars, a cavegirl could do it. God it's SOOOOOOO EASY. The only special tools you need are a basic torque wrench and a ball joint puller tool from autozone that costs 12 bucks

Thanks puredrifter. Where have you seen them that cheap? Best I've found so far is about $90 each, haven't found pairs for 96 model year. Gen 1 versions I've seen cheaper, but not Gen 2
