Default Regular to Synthetic Oil at High Mileage...

So I've read the regular vs. synthetic oil battle, and I'd like to go to synthetic.

I have near 100K miles on my LS400, is it ok to go from regular to synthetic?

How often do I need to change the oil using synthetic?

Thanks,
Jason

Change it at the same intervals as with normal oil. 100K miles is not high by any means for your car, but going synthetic is not a bad choice.

Changing at regular intervals with SYN is fine but you can go much longer especially after you've used it for a while. I have used Mobil1 SYN for over 10 years and change it just once a year unless I exceed 15,000. Try it to see what you think.

So I just switched back from synthetic to regular. I don't really see the benefit. I'd rather change my oil every 3K miles with cheaper stuff than pay more and use it longer.

i changed over my LS when it had 223k. No problems. No leaks. No burning. I decided to change over to synth because I'm rough on my car.

I switched my mom's LS to synth when it had 145k. No leaks no problems.

The Black Jade LS has always been on synth. It leaks a little oil but runs the best out of all the cars.

I know mobil is expensive. But wal mart sells 5 quarts for $20-22

idk about that, with my '95 after i switched to synthetic after a week or so (break iin time for most oils on low useage) it started to rev a decent bit smoother.

Mine has synthetic in it right now, was just changed by the dealer at 95K. I have owned it now for 2 and a half months and put on only 1K. In this thread some of you are saying to change syn at the same interval as the dino oils, 3K. How many more miles should I expect on this syn change?

i tend to run 5-8k mi intervals on my oil but have gone up to 10k when ive had things come up.

use a good quality (not necessarily most expensive) oil filter

Been using synthetic for years on my 95 and change it 4-6 K. Never a problem.

5k mile oil service is recommended by lexus and that's what i follow. i've seeen them run over 300k on standard dino oil on 5k changes.
i do run synthetic though, and change it about every 5k sometimes a bit longer because my rear and front mains are leaking so that ih ave to add a quart every 2k.

The only times I have seen this recently are on some vehicles my uncle works on that are old (and not Lexus), usually about 100K miles, but have compression issues, otherwise no issues.

i put mobil 1 in my car at 230k miles. my rear main is leaking a little but i think it was leaking before i put syn in it. I put mobil 1 in all my cars, its pretty much the only thing I buy from walmart @ $21 for 5 quarts can't beat that.
