I came from a s500 mb, so it was a step down for me. But I love big cars, and they must have v8 at least 300hp and must ne red.
I had to get used to this car, but I love the reliability and the interior is very warm, cozy. On and 28 mpg on the highway rocks! I just wish the car was 300lbs more for a more solid feel, cause it drves like a camry almost.

My reasons were reliability, comfort, and safety. Even though my car is nearly 10 years old, it drives and looks like it's still new. Our other car is a Corolla, so I feel that between the LS and the Corolla, we have the two most dependable cars ever built.

I bought the LS for trunk room...you can fit maybe 2-3 bodies...err...suitcases in there, no problem!

Seriously, my friend had a really clean low mileage '93 LS400. I made up my mind then that if anything happened to my current car at the time (an 87 Nissan Maxima 5 spd), I would get an LS instead.

I still miss my Maxima though.

Which year do you have? The trunk space on my 99 is smaller than my old 94 ES300. To be honest, the LS has the smallers trunk of most of the cars I've owned so far, yet it is the largest body size wise.

thats due to the "brilliant" placement of the fuel tank.

Exactly. That is what I mentioned in my first post. Granted, it has a slightly larger trunk than my old SC400 which also has the gas tank behind the rear seat, but still compared to regular Camry's, Accords, and I bet even the Corolla the LS400 trunk is very small.

the s500 drove a lot better, handled like a german car and was a lot bigger. The road feel of a german car was amazing. So in that regard the car was a lot better. Design wise mb cars are always the leaders and trend setters so I am not even goi g to argue. Unless you drve a w140 mb which was one of the best mb ever built you, you wound know what I am talking about.

ok, now it makes sense. you are right, the german cars do feel very good going down the road. in that aspect, i tend to agree. i still would rather have an LS though!

SOME german cars have better handling.

The S500s ive driven (later models) seemed to be part boat, just like the stock LS

the cars up until ~99/00 were pretty solid but were still unreliable in many aspects ESPECIALLY when compared to the same year's LS. The LS also has better roadholding (look it up, .78 vs. .76G) and for all tis extra LITER of engine it has all of 13 more hp (290 vs. 313).
the mercedes S500 is a superb car but a combination of higher unreliability rates (compared to the LS) and the shared dynamic shortcomings among both vehicles puts the LS slightly above the Benz at least in my eyes.

if you want to just put it up on a pedestal and say that its better, feel free, but dont expect many if any to agree with you based on your purely subjective arguement.

(*NOTE: I used a 2000 LS400 vs. 2000 Mercedes Benz S500 (which i KNOW is W220) for the simple reason that they came up at the top of the list and the W220 was actually faster than the LS of 99/00. the W140 as you well know was damned slow compared to post MC UCF20 cars (6.4s-LS and 7.8s-W140 (S500)).

I believe the trunk of our 03 Corolla is slightly bigger than the one in our 98 LS. The Corolla's trunk is definitely deeper.

im fan of luxury cars, ive owned a 2000 acura TL, grand marquis, 95 acura legend LS, and driven a couple beamers, etc.

i really want an LS for its reliability and its smoothness, it sounds like the perfect car for me. im tired of driving fast, high revving 5 speeds that rattle around on the freeway at 80mph. i want a boat.

i was looking into cadillacs, acuras, buicks, lincolns, and every other luxury sedan on the market has some major issue.
