Did anyone here buy their LS....

To be sure, Mercedes enjoys a presitige position in the marketplace based on a long history. Not trying to dog the cars, but they have been known to have many reliability problems of late. If you visit the MB forum, you'll witness a lot of complaining and much rancor in the exchange between posters. The latter is generally a function of frustrations about the car against the backdrop of having paid top dollar for not only the vehicle, but the maintenance as well and after all that, still encountering mechanical problems. I've not witnessed that sort of complaining and rancor on any Lexus forum.
Mercedes is a venerable brand and hopefully they'll return to that one day by stepping up their quality, but until they do, I'm not gonna touch them.

SOME german cars have better handling.
The S500s ive driven (later models) seemed to be part boat, just like the stock LS
the cars up until ~99/00 were pretty solid but were still unreliable in many aspects ESPECIALLY when compared to the same year's LS. The LS also has better roadholding (look it up, .78 vs. .76G) and for all tis extra LITER of engine it has all of 13 more hp (290 vs. 313).
the mercedes S500 is a superb car but a combination of higher unreliability rates (compared to the LS) and the shared dynamic shortcomings among both vehicles puts the LS slightly above the Benz at least in my eyes.
if you want to just put it up on a pedestal and say that its better, feel free, but dont expect many if any to agree with you based on your purely subjective arguement.
(*NOTE: I used a 2000 LS400 vs. 2000 Mercedes Benz S500 (which i KNOW is W220) for the simple reason that they came up at the top of the list and the W220 was actually faster than the LS of 99/00. the W140 as you well know was damned slow compared to post MC UCF20 cars (6.4s-LS and 7.8s-W140 (S500)).

Choosing an LS really comes down to one's preference about his driving experience. Some people want to feel the road. I don't want to feel nothing
im fan of luxury cars, ive owned a 2000 acura TL, grand marquis, 95 acura legend LS, and driven a couple beamers, etc.
i really want an LS for its reliability and its smoothness, it sounds like the perfect car for me. im tired of driving fast, high revving 5 speeds that rattle around on the freeway at 80mph. i want a boat.
i was looking into cadillacs, acuras, buicks, lincolns, and every other luxury sedan on the market has some major issue.

W220 was a complete mistake on MB part. It was the best selling luxury car in the world, but that doesnt mean anything to me.
The model I had was a W140 the one before W220. And yes, reliability issues is the reason I sold it. So many stupid little things broke down, like simple climate control operations. I just got sick of it.
So the reason I went for the LS is not for its looks, not for its power alone, but the most reliable car with RWD, 300 HP v8 that looks good. LS fit the bill.
My next car will be LS430. Still I think the LS400 looks much better than 430, but I want someting fresher, with navigation. Plus the LS430 looks exactly like my W140 used to.

reasons
I would say classic big sedan styling, reliability, easy to DIY, little bigger than the GS so putting the kid in the car seat is easier, bigger trunk than the GS to fit the jogger, great gas mileage for V8/size, awards won, and many more
