Whats my car worth - 1996 LS400 w/ 49k miles

Ls
I recently bought a house, so I may need to get a truck. If I do, I would need to sell the Lexus. Any ideas what I should ask for it? Its a 1996 LS400 with 49k miles. The car is the two tone pearl white with tan interior. It has new 18" LS430 rims and tires. The car is in mint shape inside and out.
By the way I would say approx. $9k in CA..

I took everyones advice and checked Kelly Blue Book. You guys were WAY off. Trade-in value ranges from $9,205 to $11,025 depending on condition. Private Party sale ranges from $11,180 to $12,925 based on condition. And Retail/dealer price is $14,930.
Since I would be doing a private party sale and my car is in excellent condition, the car would be closer to $13,000. I'm surprised you guys were so far off.

besides, it's obvious that where you live has some bearing on the price as well....seems like the posters from the west coast pay less for their cars out there.....

again, your looking at KBB.
when you shop for a car, you dont look to PAY kbb, you look to pay UNDER kbb.
the current market for 95-97 LS' is lower than the 13k your asking, especially when you realize that the west coast (socal in specific) is FLOODED with LS400s.****, i bought my 99 for around that much.
good luck with your sale, but when you ask US what its worth and dont like our response, please remember that you asked us

Very true. I did ask for your opinions. I just figured they would be a little more accurate. I also looked at KBB, based on everyones recommendations. KBB is a starting point for pricing and even though, as you stated, everyone wants to pay UNDER KBB, it has to be realistic. When KBB states that a car in excellent condition is worth close to $13,000 and you think I should expect $8,800 - $9,500, well thats about $4,000 less. Thats a big difference.
And I agree that California is flooded with used LS400s. However, most of those cars are high mileage cars. Searching on autotrader.com and cars.com, I can't even find a low mileage (under 60K) 95'-97' car for sale in California.
But all of this is irrelevant since I decided not to part with the car. I just enjoy driving it too much to get rid of it.

KBB is ridiculous, way over real selling prices. People here are telling you about selling value, not asking prices. If you ask too much (13K is too much), many who would be interested in a fair price won't even see your add. If you want a more realistic book estimate of the value of the car, check edmunds.com. They may be too low, but they're closer. Ask a local dealer how much he'd give you as a trade-in, then compare to KBB and Edmunds and see who's closer to reality. You should ask over the likely value if you aren't in a hurry to sell, no doubt, but not some unreal amount.
Edit--just noticed you're not selling the car anyway. Enjoy!

I think KBB tends to run high while Edmunds TMV runs low (about 8K). I think you'll wind up in the middle at somewhere around 10K. Better to ask for more so as to ensure you get at least that.
I guess I need to put in an edit as well as I see you plan on keeping. It's certainly understandable your hesitancy to part with the car. Enjoy!
