I don't understand what it is with all of the former Acura owners on this forum. Seems like half the guys driving Lexus and posting on these forums are past Legend owners.

Haha, yes, I've noticed that too. Not only did/do they own a Legend, but they're always talking about how great they were and blah blah.

My uncle had a Legend that he bought new in 85. I still faintly remember that car, though not much of it. I do know it's been rotting away behind his office building for over a decade now, but he refuses to get rid of it because he loved the car so much.

My '92 Legend was a great car. LS is (and was) a more advanced and better-made car. An old friend of the family bought one of the first LS's in '90, and I wanted it right away, but in '92 couldn't afford an LS. The Legend was a pretty nice runner up, and one of the cheapest ways in '92 to get dual airbags without buying something like a Taurus. I only brought it up because the audio controls were the one thing I liked on that car that weren't on the LS 6 years later. I agree that it is no big deal to reach the controls (once you get familiar with them), but the more you can do and still keep your hands on the wheel, the safer you are.

BTW, the guy with the 90 LS still has it. He is 85 and drives it only infrequently. It has about 24k on it. I got tired of waiting for him to quit driving and sell it to me, which is why I've gone out and gotten my own. When he does give it up I'm pretty sure he'll offer it to me. It is absolutely immaculate. It is also the cheapest LS I have ever seen or heard of. No leather and no sunroof. Was intended as an observation, not a problem, I imagine. It makes sense that present LS owners were Legend owners, since before there was any Lexus the Legend was filling a similar role. And, as pointed out above, even when the LS came out, the Legend was cheaper, a step on the way.

When I started shopping this time around, I was looking at Acura TLs (older RLs don't do it for me) as well as Lexus. But the TLs in my price range were the ones with the trans. issues. Besides, subconsciously, I really wanted to justify getting an LS. It just seemed like the proper successor to my prior daily driver, a '73 Mercedes 300SEL 4.5, although this time I avoided the air suspension.

Lets see, what else can I think of? I know, I wish I could get 200 miles per gallon.

Not yet a former Legend owner........I still have my '87 Legend Coupe. 383K miles on the original engine and drive train.

I miss the audio controls too, but only because my previous vehicle (02 Maxima SE) had them. That Maxima had the heated steering wheel - now THAT was the mutt's nuts!

The talk w/ the heated mirrors made me remember when my dad had this '89 Continental (new at the time). My friend was in the car and his folks never really had luxury cars.

He said "how come it says Heated on the mirror glass?"

Me - "because they're heated.."

Not to sound like a broken record, but yeah ... I miss those controls on my wheel, which my 93 legend has I still instinctively push for them with my right thumb into thin air.

I must be one of the few who don't care about steering wheel radio controls. I had them on my excursion and avalon and do not use them. It is just one more thing to go wrong IMO.
