Fuel mileage WAY DOWN.. dicoverd why too.
I topped of the tank last night and did the math.. got 11 MPG... WOW.. WAY TOO LOW... started thinking it was time for a tuneup.
BUT this morning, on the way back from work. my dash finally lit up just as I pulled into the house, and the trip counter says 5.2 miles.... Well it was 5 miles from the gas station to home and 15 miles each way to work and back...
So.. apparently the trip counter does not count.. when the dash is not lit.
Gonna check to see if the ODO counts or not.. I would think that the ODO would be more tightly regulated... otherwise people could just cut the power to the dash to keep the miles off the car..
Just thought I would post about my discovery...

Something I've thought about when looking at used 1st gens--the mileage may be off even if it matches the Carfax report, if the instrument panel has been out. Probably most folks don't let it go too long without getting it fixed, though. (Then there's the tire size issue ....)

I know with my 94 LS that quite a few miles ticked off the clock with my cluster in intermittent mode. By this I mean the period where after you had gone several miles it would eventually spark to life & be fully functional.
