LS400 Squeaks and Rattles
My LS400 w/ 96K miles is pretty good. Two squeaks/rattles surfaced in the past year. Both were easily fixed.
One rattle was in the dashboard below the speedometer. The other occurred in the CD compartment door. Otherwise, the car is squeak and rattle free.

1991 LS400 Rattle Free
I have a 1991 LS400 with 226K Kilometers = 141K miles. I live in Canada and even with the hot summers and cold winters, my car is rattle free. I love it!!!

In reference to Shaffers question, my 1994 ES300 is rattle free.......it has 61,000 miles and there is not a sound in the cabin....the only thing i can think to comment on is some slight wind noise when the sun roof shade is pulled open, but a friend of mine with a '96 SC 400 has the same problem.....but still, not a single squeak in the car.

Lexus Champion
My previous LS, a 96, had an anoying rattle in the sunroof shade. It was the clips that keep the shade from sliding around. Small parts but to get at them would require disassembling the interior and I didn't want the cost or the possibility of screwing up something else. It also has buzzing vibration coming from the passenger airbag area. Car had been in a fender bender prior to my purchase and the airback may have been replaced.
Sold that and now have a 99 LS400 which is rattle free EXCEPT for a very slight rattle from the same damn sunroof shade clips...
Oh well, VERY slight and in fact only once in a while. I have to believe there is more than coincedence going on here. Maybe others have this but just don't notice. I became a bit sensitized to this particular sound from the 96. In fact, I took it to the dealer and my salesman looked at me like I was crazy during a test drive. I could hear the rattle and he could not! Out of his hearing range! I convinced him to let the body shop check it out. The tech drove and with all 3 of us in the car he said "man that's loud"... my saleman looked confused

Thanks again for all of the replies. I recently bought a 1993 Toyota Camry LE V6 with 211,000 miles and it is still 100% squeak and rattle free. You can really see the Lexus type quality in the 92-96 Camrys. The dash is 100% padded and all panels fit perfectly. I am currently in the market for a 90-95 LS400 and hope it is also 100% rattle & squeak free. Thanks again.

a faint ...
rattle from inside the steering column / underneath the speedometer, whenever the car goes over rough bumps. Have been having the rattle since the car was new, and have never asked the dealer to look for it. The car is a '02 LS430, currently has 13.8k miles on it. When it comes to rattles / squeaks, my ears are extremely sensitive. But that's about it. No structural rattles / squeaks , even when the car is flexed / twisted i.e. coming into ramp into someone's garage. My bro's GS3 still exhibits some flexing sound / squeaks when the chassis is "twisted".
I moved to '02 Lexus LS43 from an '00 Acura 3.2 TL, both were bought brand new. The Acura makes all the squeaks and rattles and overall is just not a solid car. I paid twice the price for the Lex, and it better be different (and it IS different ); and I'm quite satisfied.

My 2003 LS430 is whisper-quiet and rattle-free. I have 12000 miles on it already and nothing out of the ordinary has happened.
The materials are top-notch. I can say after having driven every Lexus car for this model year, that the LS430 has build-quality that makes the other Lexus cars feel like a Toyota Camry. The LS430 is a MAJOR step up in every way, as it should be.
As a side note, I do love my 97 Camry.

My 91 with 114k miles had only one. In the headliner behind the driveres head/ My 98 with now 38k miles has Zero and I mean ZERO squeaks or Rattles.
My 99 RX300 with 60k miles also has ZERO squeaks or rattles.
You can not ask for a better built car as far as integrity goes.
Jerry

Finally, ever since I posted this topic- I have been waiting to get a LS400 to reply.
Now that I officially have a LS400- I can now reply about my car.
I have a 1990 Lexus LS400 that has 225,800 miles and is still 100% squeak and rattle free. The only noise I can hear (when radio is off and A/C-heat blower motor off or on low) is an occasional "ticking" sound from the leather rear seats rubbing together where they meet when I go over sharp bumps when the interior temperature is below about 45 degrees when I first leave in the mornings. That is not a squeak or rattle though and even that may be where the new struts were installed and the seats are not properly re-secured. When the blower and/or radio is on- I can hear no other noises what-so-ever. Still no rattles or squeaks comes from the instrument panel, headliner-sunroof, door panels, pillars, etc. These cars are pretty impressive when it comes to squeaks and rattles.

1990 ls400 here.
no rattles/squeeks interior. really quiet.
but suspension has a minor squeek in it.
probably needs oil or something.
compare to the other car, clk, there are rattles/squeeks.
not quite as solid. you can even feel the ls400 is solid
air tight when you close the door as opposed to clk.
go on a freeway and open, then close the sunroof...
u can tell u have a solid car when you get a suction-like
feel after you close it.
