light weight alloy wheels
I have decided to go with tire rack. The preferred winter package (same size as the the set on my LS400 right now) is a 15 inch light weight alloy rims (15.4 LB). Is it a good idea to have such a light weight rims? If I would like a little extra ground clearance without sacrifice safety what options do I have. I am a car idiot, do excuse my indecision. Please help!

tire rack is a good choice. light weight wheels are always better, they give better mileage, braking, acceleration and handling.
ther'es really nothing for increasing ground clearance though. a slightly larger tire would get you maybe 1/2" higher, which wouldn't really help much.
get the snow tires and you'll be fine for all but the heaviest snowfall. for that, i guess you're stuck at home or buying a jeep! i have a lifted jeep for bad weather.

Thanks!!!! I will go ahead and go for the preferred package. We have a slight slope at the end of our drive way (~15-20 degree). The bottom scrapes a bit once a while when the car is loaded. I wonder how the rest of you with dropped chases avoid situation like this? Thanks again!!!!!!

scraping
Hi LiCelsior, I think it scrapes in the middle. I try not to load up passengers till I am over the danger zone. The low rider does look elegant. Thanks you all!!!!
