welcome to the club my battery did the same thing that yours did sucked in on the side and got hot after 2 years. The alternator is a 100 amp unit and I think it might be over charging the battery after it gets 2 years old. Why no one seems to know why so I guess we just keeping changing batteries every two years.

like it was said above. if the alternator is dead, check your power steering pump for leaks. it is common on the older LS's for the pump to leak and short out the alternator. its important to fix the leak if thats the cause. if you dont, you will just burn up another alternator.
