hhhhhhhhh, the jack stand is just setting there in case, I have 14" thick pine logs under the car I have 3 of them,.. thanks for the concern.
I think I am going to do what Billy did, I am not going to take off the 2 bolts that hold the starter... I can;'t take of down the Catalyc convertot or drop the transmission in order to get to the bolts !. I will rebuild it and put back the 2 contacts and plunger . my ONLY concern is,since I already took off the 4 nuts that hold the back bridge ( cooling bridge) I lost a lot of cooling fluide, ) my concern is I can't put a new gaskets on the water by pass bridge because I have no room to left it and slide in new gaskets !, the whole unit is attached to the bottom manifold exhaust vias the 2 EGR valve
now I am concern of possible leak ! from the bridge gaskets ? any suggestion?
BILLY..at pictures show that the back bridge on 97 and 99 ls 400 has different shape than the 95 ls 400. thats why the 95 has less room to work on.here is the picture
I removed the back part of my starter cleaned the silinoid with carb cleaner and sanded the contact parts !
I stripped the 2 screws that hold the starter cover together I need a news ones !

Yeah, this seems like an easier way as long as you do a good job with the contacts and take it to a good shop and bench test it.

Good luck

95 ls 400 is very hard to take off the "driver side: starter bolt because just on top of the positif bolt there is a litte black conector there is no way to take it off. !
billy you did the job on the 99 ls 400 acording to your picture you strater dont have the black conector see pictures

WTH was Toyota thinking when they were designing the engine? Geez I thought plenum pull on my Z was hard. Usually starter replacement is 2 hr job tops. I hope I never have to go through this.

Read from the 3rd post, it might help you. Also, to get the cat bolts you have to get them from underneath the passenger side rear with 1 short and long extention bars attached to either a 12 or 14mm socket. I hope this helps.

Default I decided to rebuild my strater without removing it

I just cleaned my manifold intakes both lower and upper with gasoline using a tooth brush, I instaled 2 copper conatct and the plunger on my starter , Its took me long time just do instal them with the starter still bolted to the block
the only mistake I did is the remove the 4 bolts that hold the water by pass ( cooling bridge) I lost lot of cooling fluid and since I can't remove the bridge I have no way to put a new Gaskets in . hope its will not leak ! I will try to put some RTV gaskets sealer all around the joint before lock the nuts. here is some pictures.
I lubricated the starter housing where the armature nose go in with a silicone lubrication. too
thanks all

So I guess you have thrown in the towel in taking the coolant bridge out? I really hope in your case there is no leakage back there, but you should be okay as long as the rubber strips for the gaskets did not break off.

Just a suggestion because I don't really know what it looks like in there but with a new gasket for the coolant bridge, can you snip the gasket at the bolt holes and slide it in somehow? Is there enough room? If not, then maybe sealant would work but I woudn't count on it too much. Or, you just gotta spend the time and take it off and fix it the right way.
