93 LS: Few recent fixes
Just fixed a few pending issues with the Lex.
1.) Cluster capacitor repair. Both C212 and C142.
2.) Climate control backlight bulbs
3.) Climate control LCD
4.) Installed a Pioneer P1R with the Metra dash kit
5.) New gatorback serp belt
Also found out why the rear was sagging. Replaced those, $70 each.

A very nice car. Two Qs.
1. Do you power the speakers directly by the Pioneer HU? If so, how is the sound quality as compared with that powered by the factory HU and amplifier?
2. Is it required to take the engine fan off to install the gatorback?
I am planning to do those two things in the near future.
Thanks.

1.) I had two external amps hooked up to my Nakamichi unit. I used this after the factory amplifier in back. Then I ran the RCA's to my aftermarket amps. (1 for speakers, 1 for the subs). I ran the speaker wires out of the aftermarket amps back to the factory speaker wire outputs to the speakers (coming out of the factory amp). This worked great until my CD Changer went out. Then I used an Ipod through the cassette deck. Again, worked great until smoke came out of the cassette deck.
Now, I simply ran RCA's to the trunk from the P1R. The P1R does not have an amplifier in it, it needs external amps so you have to run RCAs out of it. I also ran new speaker wires to the front tweeters since the P1R controls Low (Subs), Mid (Door speakers), and High (tweeters).
If you have any more questions with that, let me know.
2.) You don't need to remove the fan. I pulled the old belt off in 3 seconds. All that was needed after that was a 14mm(?) socket to pull the tensioner back to slip the new belt on.

I have replaced my serpentine belt twice,, once when I had a pulley lock up, and another time due to a defective belt and not once did I have to remove the fan. Just snake the belt around the fan, use a 14 mm socket to release tension on the tensioner pulley and install.
