I'd think you'd agree that at low rpms the optimum backpressure would be different than the backpressure that is optimum for high rpms. Such a diverter system could allow for such an optimization.

I want to keep this project below $1500 or else I'd rather just put that money towards an HD Projector and a 120" screen for my home theater.
id just tell you to go get a properly made (and sized) exhaust

the power gains, especially for $1500 () will be miniscule (if any) with the "diverter system" compared to a full cat-back exhaust using 2.25in. tubing, an X-pipe and high-flowing mufflers.

I'll probably just delete the resonators so that the exhaust velocity will remain the same as stock and then use the $1500 towards my home theater.

lol a full custom exhaust will cost at most maybe 1/2 of your budget
